UTANG Chronicles – The Return

I received few facebook messages from a friend a few weeks ago regarding my previous article UTANG Chronicles Part 1 (How to assess whether you will lend people money)  Asking for advise on how to approach his friend na pinahiram nya ng money a year ago.

Right now, my friend is already having financial issues. My friend told me na nahihiya siya to approach yung friend niya para singilin, pero nakikita naman daw nya na palaging post ng Vacation Photos, mga Eat-outs and bili ng new gadgets yung friend niya. So she thinks that her friend can pay the loan to hr.

I advised my friend to go ahead and talk to her friend to settle the loans na and She needs the money din.

Few days have passed and I received no message from my friend so I decided to ask her..

ME:                    So kamusta?

FRIEND:          Sabi ng friend ko wala pa siyang money to pay for the loan.

ME:                     Did you ask her if when she will pay?

If I only read your article UTANG Chronicles Part 1 for sure I’m not having this problem now.

ME:                 Sad to say, pero that’s a normal story na. Ikaw pa lalabas na masama pag-naningil ka. I heard a a lot of stories na ganyan.

I then quoted Francis J Kong

“If you lend someone money, and never see that person again; it was probably worth it. Money is the acid test of character. Watch a person’s attitude towards money & you will have a peak into the soul. Jesus says no man can serve two masters; either he or she will serve God or money. Many great men have fallen today because of their insatiable desire for money. Use money and never let it use you.”

My friend was relieved somehow but I’m saddened din because the amount is quite huge lalo na ngayon na she is also having financial difficulties din.

I will not lend her money na and this will be a lesson for me.

I again reiterated to her na Hindi masamang tumulong, pero ang tanong:

Now we are not judging the person. Baka kapos talaga sya at work ng work pero kinakapos lang talaga.. Kaya nga there are criterias na we can follow before tayo magpa-hiram ng money.

Kaya nga less that 1% lang of the Filipino population invest e.

I know a lot of small Sari-sari store na nalulugi dahil sa utang. Again, sounds familiar?

Every 15th or end of the month                              – Uutangan na kaagad

In fact I received a lot of messages and comments regarding the Part 1 of this article.

I asked this question na:

Naranasan mo na ba na may nangutang sayo and then suddenly makita mo facebook post na naglalaboy sa mall at bumili ng bagong gadget?

SS

It might be funny, but the thing is, nakakalungkot un, You lend your money and you believed sa promise na babayaran on the promised date then after a week, months, years, walang bayad? Sira ang friendship right?

But then Again,, I would like to repeat this over and over again,

Hindi masamang tumulong, but follow the criterias and ask yourself, Talaga bang nakaka-tulong ka? Or nangungunsinte lang?

The only way I avoid this is to not loan at all or not lend money at all. Though I have borrowed money before, I make sure that I have means to pay or I only loan my money to people who I know will pay me

When I lend money, I never expect to be paid. This way walang samaan ng loob pag hindi nagbayad.
